What'll likely be competition for the soon-to-open W Hotel and the delayed-and-struggling Palihouse hotel, Hollywood Boulevard is getting another hotel. Today the city council gave the thumbs up to plans to convert the Security Pacific building at at 6381 Hollywood Boulevard into an 80-room boutique hotel. Houston-based Rottet Studio (they have an office in LA), the same firm that did the Renaissance Hollywood, is behind the project, which'll have a rooftop pool, among other amenities. Additionally, a nightclub is planned in the building's old basement bank vault, according to a story in this week's Beverly Park Press.
And it's a good thing a nightclub is coming. Mark Borkowsky, a senior associate with Rottet Studio, tells the publication that nearby nightclub Empire will be torn down to make room for a parking structure and entrance plaza for the hotel. No immediate word if the Empire (and their underwear models) are headed elsewhere. The seven-story Security Pacific Bank Building was built in the early twenties. Notably Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe held fictional offices on the sixth floor. Early and not finished designs for the hotel can be seen here. Meanwhile, Borkowsky tells the paper the developer---named as SPBB LLC--hopes to start work on the hotel soon, as early as this summer.
