Neighbors in Mid-City West are wary of a 7-Eleven store proposed for 369 N. Fairfax Avenue, reports the Park La Brea News/Beverly Park News. It sounds like locals are mostly worried about the store's liquor license and the possibility of nefarious characters. "I am deeply trouble by the idea of 7-Eleven moving in there," says Steve Kramer, president of the Miracle Mile Chamber of Commerce, telling the paper that a 24-hour store, and one that has a license for beer and wine, is the "wrong business in the wrong location." Additionally, Andrew Lachman, president of the Mid City West Community Council tells the paper: “We know that 7-Eleven can have a negative impact on the local community,” Lachman said. "There have been problems at the 7-Eleven on Third Street, with them selling liquor to underage people and panhandlers hanging out there...right now our community is on an upswing and we don’t want it to get derailed." One person who seems at least amenable to considering the idea: Joyce Kleifield of the Fairfax Business Association, who says she'd rather see a business go into the mini-mall than have a vacant space, while at least "school-aged children can afford to buy snacks at the place," she says. A rep for 7-Eleven says the community is doing outreach with locals about the store, while there's a July 14 MCWCC Board meeting to discuss the project. [Park La Brea/Beverly Press; PDF]
