The Los Angeles Business Council (LABC), a citywide trade group of local businesses, handed out its 39th annual architectural awards today at the endangered Century City Plaza Hotel at 2025 Avenue of the Stars. The Grand Prize winner: Vista Hermosa Park in downtown, that 9.5 acre park that opened last year. We'd like a reaction from that one downtown resident who hated the new park's design. Additionally, the forthcoming LAPD Fallen Officers Memorial and the Pasadena Bike Transit Center won in the design concept/unbuilt category. Previous design winners have included downtown's Park Fifth and Jean Nouvel's 10000 Santa Monica project, so let's hope some of these winners actually see the light of day. Other winners included Lorcan O'Herlihy's cardinal red Formosa condo building, and all the winners will be posted shortly. UPDATED.
