The all-mighty, all-powerful Los Angeles Planning Commission, which decides the fate of the city's biggest developments, may be down a member. Yesterday Planning Commissioner Ricardo Lara, who is running for Assemblymen in the 50th District, told the LA Times that he would resign following the paper's revelation that Lara is soliciting funds for his race, but the district isn't in Los Angeles, and hence, a planning commissioner can't serve on the committee if he doesn't live in Los Angeles. (For background on all the individuals of the 9-member Planning Commission, check out this cheat sheet.) Meanwhile, the Planning Commission voted yesterday to approve that Daniel Libeskind-designed building proposed for Figueroa Street in downtown, according to an aide in the Commission's office. Best to visualize how it'll actually look. [LA Times]
