This was probably inevitable: Word comes from up north about legal action that could delay the proposed California high-speed rail project. Via the San Francisco Examiner: "The promise of the $45 billion project is a state-of-the-art train that will whisk passengers from Los Angeles to San Francisco in two hours and 40 minutes. The proposed system is projected to carry 94 million passengers annually by the year 2030, according to the California High Speed Rail Authority. Next month, a lawsuit challenging the rail system’s planned routing between Fresno and San Francisco will go before a Sacramento judge." Ron Diridon, chairman of the CHSRA, tells the paper that the lawsuit, which was brought on by two cities over objections to the project's proposed retaining walls and elevated platforms, could delay the timetable by 2-3 years and cost another $3 million. Ach. Our Curbed brother up north is also covering the story, and notes that these communities fighting the project want the train to go through East Bay. [SF Examiner]
