It's well known that Italian architect Renzo Piano (pictured), having completed Phase 1 of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)'s Transformations (which included the new Broad Contemporary Art Museum) is now working on Phase II. While Phase II will include renovations of LACMA West, a new restaurant, and much more, Piano is designing a special exhibition space, which'll consist of a new, free-standing, single story glass building with exhibition galleries. But LACMA press reps will not release any renderings of the Piano building. The reps also kindly discourage calling Piano directly and trying to get renderings (there's an agreed embargo on the renderings). Meanwhile, on September 29th, LACMA press reps will release what they are calling some "big news" about Phase II. How and even if this "big news" relates to the Piano building is unclear. What's the secret, LACMA? Another starchitect? Tide yourself over by looking at the latest construction shots of Phase II in the gallery.
