A reader forwards a flier emailed by the city of Santa Monica to locals about two weeks ago concerning the decision to remove 23 ficus trees from around 2nd and 4th streets, a move that has local group Treesavers threatening to chain themselves to the trees. Arguing that the trees are unhealthy and ripping up the sidewalks, city officials provide some tree math and a Q and A. [Pictured: Ginkgo trees set to replace the green ficus.]
