[All part of Women in the City: Jenny Holzer's "Truisms" installed at the Roosevelt Hotel and her brightly colored "Inflammatory Essays" at La Brea and Washington; Sherman's untitled film still on the billboard at Wilshire and Fairfax; and Kruger's "Plenty" on the video billboard on Sunset Blvd. ]
A hooligan--or a smart art collector-tore down/possibly took the Jenny Holzer art piece off the side of the downtown Standard Hotel this week, but it was re-installed yesterday, reps helping run Women in the City tell us. Holzer's piece, text on colorful pieces of paper, is just one piece of "Women in the City," an art project launched earlier this month featuring Holzer and artists Barbara Kruger, Louise Lawler, and Cindy Sherman. In addition to the Holzer repair, there's more coming: A fourth Cindy Sherman "film still" billboard is going up on March 10th on Sunset and Olive, so keep your eyes peeled. UPDATE: Hooligan? A commenter claims construction workers took down Holzer's work.
