Glendale Officials All Jacked Up About Potential Hotels
Tuesday, January 8, 2008, by Dakota
With Glendale's City Center II, a 172-hotel room and 184-unit condominium development at Wilson Avenue at Brand Boulevard (pictured) in the pipeline, a rash of other hotels are also proposed, reports the Glendale News-Press's Ryan Vaillancourt. Komar Investments want to put up a 150- to 180-room hotel two blocks away, at Wilson and Central avenues, while down the street, the 272-room Embassy Suites hotel is opening at Cental Avenue and Burchett Street this spring. Given the hotels' proximity to Galleria and Caruso's forthcoming Americana at Brand, Philip Lanzafame, director of the city’s Development Services Department, envisions an "economic corridor" where hotel visitors could walk and shop--and then just stumble back to their rented bunks. Also for the plan: Some members of the Downtown Glendale Merchants Association, who say the "rush-hour gridlock would be a small price to pay" for all that foot traffic and increased business.
