The Backstory On Those Proposed Digital Billboards
Friday, January 25, 2008, by Dakota
If you're scratching your head, trying to understand why anyone would want to place 76-foot high, blinking-24-hours-a-day digital billboards off a downtown freeway, may we point you to this City Watch story. An excellent summary of the behind-closed-door-dealings that ultimately could make downtown all Vegas-y, the story recaps the chain of events from the Santa Monica Blvd improvement project to the Clear Channel lawsuit to the buried mention of the digital billboards in an environmental impact report (EIR) for councilwoman Jan Perry's proposed wetlands park. Overall, it's a pretty searing indictment of city officials and how things get down. Good reading, slightly depressing.
