Nokia Plaza: Like You're There, But Speeding By at 50 MPH

UPDATE: Angelenic points us to FridayinLA's amazing Flickr pool, one shot seen above. Dan's speedy photo after the jump.

Dan at LoftLA.com alerts us to his most recent pictures of the newly lit up, and sort of almost operational Nokia Theater at LA Live. "I didn't bother to get out of the car though, so they're blurry. It looks a lot better than the pictures though..." Driving by is half the battle, Dan. Thanks.

I remember getting into it with semprini about how this was not a "pedestrian friendly" project any more than a shopping mall is pedestrian friendly.

Do 8 or 9 lanes of car traffic add to the pedestrian accessibility to this venue (esp. from the "nearby" Blue Line stop)?

I guess I'll have to go see for myself.

Oh you said PEDESTRIAN friendly? I thought you said armored tank friendly.

Construction equipment not withstanding, I think it's totally walkable and fun (though I hate the signage). I don't think people mind crossing streets that are wider than a bike lane, and the streetscape plan really makes a big difference in creating a pleasant environment.

is it just me or do they look like the thing they build and burn at Burning Man each year?

Looks like a refurbished mall from SGV.

Not a fan.

I walked by there last night, it definitely has more of a suburban/Universal Citywalk/Anaheim Grove type feel to it than "Times Square West". At least there's no gates (yet)! That being said, it was nice enough and is transit accessible, although according to the pamphlet I found in the Downtown News it's pretty much all parking (20,000 parking spaces within a 10 minute walk!) and the Metro accessibility got the tiniest of mentions on the back page alongside legal information.

Could someone maybe better articulate the "suburban mall" complaint a little more? I think you're just whining for the sake of whining. This may not be "Times Square West" (a comparasson that has always made me shudder) but it sure as hell isn't the Santa Anita Mall.
