Flaming Bar Actually Flaming

And continuing with more gay bar coverage: Despite the punchy headline, we're sorry to report that Micky's at 8857 Santa Monica Boulevard is currently on fire. A spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department tells us it's a one-alarm fire; five fire trucks are on the scene. With the loss of two gay bars in one day, we're smelling a right-wing conspiracy. And we hope everyone at Micky's is ok.

I wonder if they will have a Candle Light Vigil for it later. WeHo seems to have one for everything. Maybe that's what they were doing at the time...

Channel 7 keeps saying that it's the East West Lounge, which is on the corner. But it's definitely Micky's.

Marcus & Millichap has Micky's listed for $10M. I'm assuming that's a 0% Cap Rate now.

the Micky's Business is being offered for $7.9M. I wonder what the insurance on the building is.

I didn't even know it was for sale? Do we think it's just a coincidence?

in this market? I'm surprised Countrywide's not burning houses. Or maybe they are...

What would definitely be coincidental is if it was East West: if you've ever been in there you know the owners must be looking for a way to recoup their losses.

After SBE bought Abbey for so much (even tho the actual amount was unreported) its no surprise that owners wanted 8, they stood a good chance of getting it.

Sorry just have to add. I'm not sure if you came up with the title y'all used or not, and in case you did I just have to point out that in the Gay Pride Parades Micky's always rents a Fire Engine with a giant banner on the side saying "Micky's: Flaming Gay Bar."

This is sadly ironic considering Mickeys had a fire truck in the gay pride parade this year that actually had a banner on the side saying "FLAMING GAY BAR" See photos on flickr!

Oh, no! Where will all the gay asians go now?

I think there just might be a place for a gay bar or two on Main Street in Alhambra. The part of Main east of Garfield is starting to look kinda seedy, so it's gotta be pretty cheap--and the Asian part pretty much takes care of itself in the west SGV, right?
