Construction Watch: Hollywood's W Hotel
Wednesday, August 29, 2007, by jwilliams
The cranes have landed at the W Hotel in Hollywood. Over the weekend they seemed to have gone up fairly quickly. We stopped by this morning to take a few snaps of the rapidly progressing development. Scheduled completion date for the 300 room hotel and condo project is sometime in 2009.
It does seem that construction of The W is on the fast track but what's up with the other boutique hotel that being constructed only a block away, directly across the street from the Capital Records bulding? It's seems to coming along rather nicely too but I have a feeling that it's always going to be the neglected stepsister to The W. Isn't it named the Palihouse or something like that?
You know they are putting on the facade now, right? They have finished the first 3-5 floors now with a modern looking green tinted glass and stainless steel framing.
That tower had some fun history. Shortly after it was built it's "forced scale" made it seem much larger/taller that it really was. So it was used in that campy 1970's disaster movie "EARTHQUAKE". Shortly before the electrical transformer problems in the basement forced the entire building to be shut down I had my 30th birthday party at "360" the restaurant on the top floor. the renderings i have see for that building's future have me excited. It will be updated nicely with a dash of frivolty. I can hardly wait to see it finished.
