Lena Headey, who plays Cersei Lannister on Game of Thrones, lives in an area of Los Angeles that’s not exactly known as a celebrity enclave. In the San Fernando Valley, she has reinvented a 1950s suburban home, stripping it down to the studs, then lifting the ceilings and adding a second story to create a relaxing, kid-friendly space that, she tells Dwell magazine in its October issue, reminds her of Ibiza, one of her favorite places.
In 2014, the English actress traded down for the three-bedroom home in Sherman Oaks, paying a reported $790,000 after selling a midcentury modern (at a loss) in the Hollywood Hills. Trulia says the Valley pad is, "located in one of the best neighborhoods Sherman Oaks has to offer ... and sits on a beautiful, quiet tree-lined street." Headey tells Dwell the Hollywood Hills pad had been too big: "In England, we live in boxes that you pay millions for ... So when I got to L.A., I was like, ‘My god, everything is huge.’"
She might have had trouble adapting to LA's McMansions, but she seems to have taken to California style. The home is nearly all white save for pops of cool blues, exposed wood (the floors are salvaged oak), and a mirrored kitchen backsplash. The neutral decor is comprised of "organic textures," "one-of-a-kind light fixtures" from various Los Angeles shops, and "‘scrappy’ Moroccan rugs and lounge-y upholstered furniture." The backyard, sprinkled with potted succulents, is outfitted with an outdoor shower and a macrame hammock.
