In episode 16 of Tom Explores Los Angeles, Tom goes inside the abandoned Hawthorne Plaza mall in the City of Hawthorne. Closed for 15 years, the husk of the building is all that's left of the indoor mall that opened in 1977 and closed in 1999. It was once anchored by a JC Penney, Montgomery Ward, and a three-story Broadway department store. Over the years, there have been several plans floated to convert the mall for other uses, including a push to move SpaceX into the building, but nothing has panned out to date.
